Man shot in head over stolen marijuana

HUTCHINSON ISLAND, FL (WFLX) - A man was shot in the head Tuesday night on Hutchinson Island after a dispute over stolen marijuana, the Martin County Sheriff's Office says.

Forty-two-year-old Patrick Nelson of Superior, Wisconsin is hospitalized in critical condition. In addition to the gunshot wound, he has a broken neck and broken bones, the sheriff's office says.

According to investigators, a witness saw Nelson go into a residence at Holiday Out Mobile Home Park and leave before the owner returned.

The resident, 25-year old Ryan Lounders, later discovered $1,000 in marijuana missing, the sheriff's office says.

Detectives say Lounders and his roommate, Donald Smith, drove to the River Club Condominiums where Nelson was staying and confronted him.

Nelson was shot in a struggle, and Smith and Lounders fled, the sheriff's office says.

Detectives later found the pair and have charged them with attempted felony murder, burglary, and battery.

They are being held without bond.

Nelson is listed in critical condition.
