Port St. Lucie husband indicted in pregnant wife's death

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WFLX) - A grand jury has returned first degree murder charges in the shooting death of a pregnant woman.

Latwassa Argrett was seven weeks pregnant when she was killed October 26.

Investigators say Chekingson Sinclair shot the Port St. Lucie woman in a jealous rage. "They were arguing over a text message he had found on her phone from an old boyfriend," Lt. Scott Beck said at the time of the initial investigation.

Police said Sinclair threw Argrett's phone in the toilet. Then, police said, Sinclair claims Argrett grabbed a knife and tried to attack him.

Police said Sinclair shot at Argrett and missed, but then shot her again in the back of the head.

Police say Sinclair waited three hours before he called police to tell them he shot his wife. "His version of accounts and what we saw at the crime scene were completely inconsistent," said Beck.

Police believe Sinclair planted a knife next to Argrett's body to support his self-defense claim.

Experts believe with the indictment of first degree murder, prosecutors will likely seek the death penalty.
