MARTIN COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - At least eight Haitian refugees are in custody, according to the Martin County Sheriff's Office. They include four men, three women, and a child.
Deputies detained them at Jensen Public Beach, the sheriff's office said. According to investigators, they were dropped off somewhere in St. Lucie County and made their way south.
Deputies say they suspect as many as 20 people were dropped off.
The sheriff's office says it has located the boat used to transport the refugees.
