Rescue group removes 138 guinea pigs from mobile home

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL (WFLX) - More than 100 guinea pigs were rescued this weekend in Palm Beach Gardens.

According to Jeremy Henle of Crazy Cavies Guinea Pig Rescue in Lauderhill, a Palm Beach County woman contacted the group on Monday stating that she was losing her home and would not be able to care for her estimated 80 guinea pigs.

She told the rescue group that on Saturday she would be leaving them to starve or releasing them.

The rescue group arranged to meet the woman on Saturday at her residence.

Once at the home, members of the rescue group learned that there were actually a total of 138 animals.

Henle says the cages were "super small", and some of the cages contained between 10 and 15 animals.

He says inside the mobile home there was a hole in the floor and cages were stacked from floor to ceiling.

Henle says many of the guinea pigs had "fight wounds" and a few had injured eyes.

Crazy Cavies Guinea Pig Rescue in Lauderhill were already caring for 75 guinea pigs before taking in these 138 animals from Palm Beach Gardens.

Henle encourages anyone who can help the group with donations, supplies, foster homes, or by becoming an adopter to call 954-547-3201 or visit www.crazycavies.org.
