Four dead in multi-vehicle crash in Western Palm Beach County, US 27 shut down

WESTERN PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Four people are dead and one is injured after a multi-vehicle accident near US 27 and Willard Smith Road in Western Palm Beach County.

The accident happened approximately six to seven miles south of South Bay. There was heavy fog in the area.

First arriving Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crews found multiple vehicles with heavy damage and trapped occupants.

Firefighters were working with extrication tools to free the occupants from the vehicles.

Officials have confirmed there are four people dead in the crash. One person was transported to a local hospital by helicopter.

The Florida Highway Patrol says that the trailer from a tractor trailer headed southbound on US 27 became disconnected from the cab and stuck in the middle of the road.

A southbound driver struck the trailer and was then hit by another tractor trailer. A second vehicle was also hit, according to FHP.
