BOYNTON BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Authorities in southern Palm Beach County are searching for a missing boater after an abandoned vessel was found near the Boynton Beach Inlet on Tuesday afternoon.

The sheriff's office said at about 4:15 p.m., a passing vessel noticed a 19-foot Sea Ray boat adrift six miles south of the Boynton Inlet, two miles from shore with no passengers aboard.

The passing vessel towed the boat near Harvey E. Oyer Jr. Park.

According to authorities, the boat was rented earlier in the day in Broward County and not returned. A license was found on the boat.

PBSO Marine Unit Deputies, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Coast Guard officials are searching for the missing boater.

The name of the boater has not been released.
