LAKE WORTH, FL (WFLX) - Two people are in custody after a man was set on fire following an altercation in Lake Worth Tuesday night, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
Officials said the incident happened at 9 p.m. in an alley located in the 300 block of North Dixie Highway.
PBSO said witnesses described two men waiting behind a fence at 314 North H Street, directly parallel to 301 North Dixie Highway.
The attackers then threw a liquid and tossed a flame onto the victim, said a PBSO news release.
Several witnesses identified Ervin B. Miranda-Hernandez, 23, as the person who lit the victim on fire.
PBSO said Guillermo Alonso, 22, was identified as being his accomplice, based on information provided by the witnesses and visible injuries he sustained from an incident on April 19 in which he fought with the victim.
The victim was transported to St. Mary's Medical Center and later to Jackson Memorial in Miami in critical condition with severe burns to his upper torso and face.
Both suspects, who are Lake Worth residents, are charged with attempted first-degree murder. A judge did not set a bond when Miranda-Hernandez was in court Wednesday morning.
The motive is still unclear.
