PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - A judge denied bond Wednesday morning for a man accused of killing his mother with a crowbar and trying to kill his father in suburban Lake Worth.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said the death occurred around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 5500 block of Lake Shore Village Circle in the Winston Trails community.
Deputies said Thomas Henry Schnieders, 49, attacked his parents while the couple was getting ready for church.
The suspect’s brother was trying to do a welfare check on their parents Tuesday night when law enforcement discovered the homicide.
According to his father, Schnieders was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia. He was supposed to go to the doctor Tuesday because it did not appear that his medication was working correctly.
His father said Schnieders wasn't happy that the appointment was made without his knowledge, and he became angry with his parents.
As they were getting ready for church Tuesday morning, the father said Schneiders attacked his parents, killing his mother.
The father said he acted like he was dead to stop the attack. He was taken to the hospital, treated and released.
Schneiders is charged with murder and attempted murder.
During Wednesday morning’s court hearing, a judge ordered Schnieders have a mental evaluation.
