RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. - Riviera Beach police have arrested a woman in connection with a case of severe child abuse.
According to police, officers accompanied a Department of Children and Families' Investigator to a home on July 4, where they found two young children under the age of five with bruises and burn marks over much of their bodies.
Two children were transported to a hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Debra Galloway, 47, the childrens' legal guardian, was arrested for two counts of Aggravated Child Abuse and two counts of Neglect Causing Great Bodily Harm.
Children ages 1, 2, 4, and 5, were under Galloway's care at the home.
Galloway is the grandmother of one of the children. She is not related to the other three, according to court officials.
During Galloway's appearance in Palm Beach County court Sunday, the judge said what Galloway is accused of doing is "horrific."
The court says Galloway has 5 prior felony convictions and a few misdemeanor convictions as well.
Bail was set at $70,000 and Galloway was ordered to have no contact with any children.
The judge says some of the children remain in the hospital. All four have been placed in protective custody.
Investigators ask anyone with information about this case to contact police at 561-845-4123 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
