Downtown Boynton Beach is getting revamped

Downtown Boynton Beach is getting a facelift.

The city officially broke ground today on "500 Ocean."

It will include apartments, shops and offices on Federal Highway and Ocean Avenue.

The city invested more than $4 million in the project and Mayor Jerry Taylor hopes it kick starts redevelopment. “I'm hoping to see a lot more stores and activities coming up Ocean (Avenue). I'd like to make this a walking area for pedestrians with little shops and destinations.”

But there was some bad news today too in Boynton Beach.

The developer chosen to turn two historic downtown buildings into restaurants says he's lost his financing.

The mayor is staying optimistic the city can find someone to take over the Little House and Oscar Magnuson home.
