New water quality monitor for St. Lucie River deployed by Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute

Scientists with Harbor Branch Oceanographic Research Institute released an observatory into the St. Lucie River Wednesday morning.

The device is called LOBO and stands for Land Ocean Biogeochemical Observatory.

It’s designed to measure the water quality in the region.

The project is part of $2 million in funding approved by the state legislature.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
