UPDATE:

Two separate shootings less than a mile apart in West Palm Beach lead to a busy Tuesday evening for police.

The first, which took place on Sapodilla Avenue just after 5 p.m., and left one man dead.

The second, on Grant Street just 45 minutes later, sends another to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Police are still searching for the gunmen in each case.

It's the tipping point for a James Thomas, who has watched his lifelong home plagued by violence.

"It's not going to stop until people realize this is a real problem," he says.

Thomas says he grew up in this neighborhood, but it's not the neighborhood he remembers - and he wants to change that.

"It's going to really take people pulling together as a neighborhood," Thomas says.  The politicians downtown, the leaders in the church...it's going to take a lot of people coming together to do something about this."

The future of the younger generation is squarely on his mind, as he hopes they can avoid being on either end of the violence.

"We don't want to see our kids like that," he says. "We want to see our kids in Harvard, Notre Dame, Florida, schools like that. We want to see our kids become something...get a fair chance at life."

Police haven't released the names of either shooting victim.

They are still seeking out witnesses in each case.

If you have any info, you're urged to call police.
