Five dead, child injured in hydroplaning wreck in DeSoto County, Florida

ARCADIA, Fla. - Five people were killed and a child hospitalized Sunday evening after a pickup truck hydroplaned and crashed into a car in DeSoto County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Jennifer Zuniga was driving her son in a Ford F-150 eastbound on State Road 70 when the truck hydroplaned, spun and went over the center line.

The truck crashed into a Volkswagen Passat driven by Lamour Welch of St. Petersburg.

Zuniga, 30, died in the crash.  Her 6-year-old son, Cort Thivierge, was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.  Both are from Venus, Fla.

All of the occupants in the car -- driver Lamour Welch, 29, her two sisters India Welch, 24, and Tehira Welch, 18, all of St. Petersburg, along with Antwayne Robinson, 25, of Garner, N.C. -- were killed in the wreck.
