FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The annual statewide alligator hunt starts Saturday in Florida.

Wildlife experts estimate there are about a million alligators living in the Sunshine State.

The hunt will last for 10 weeks throughout the state's swamps, marshes, lakes, canals and rivers. It begins Saturday at 5 p.m. and goes through Nov. 1.

Hunting alligators is tightly regulated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission . Hunters had to register with the state ahead of time for permits and tags.

Last year one of the biggest gators caught was one 12 feet 2 inches found on the Blue Cypress Marsh Water Management Area in western Indian River County.
