Man exposed by Consumer Watch Dog now faces felony charges

A man first exposed by the Consumer Watchdog now faces theft and fraud charges.

Joseph Schiavone Jr. is out of jail on bond but he's facing serious charges including grand theft and money laundering related to a real estate deal for a home he didn't have the right to sell.

The State Attorney’s office says Schiavone has been under investigation for nearly a year now for real estate deals that never went through and have cost his clients nearly a $100,000. The charges he's facing now stem from a case where police say Schiavone accepted $24,000 dollars from Sheila Seidel, a woman featured in our first story, as a down payment for a home.

Detectives say Schiavone never used the money for the purchase of a home. Seidel tells the Consumer Watchdog Schiavone did eventually give her about $4,500 back. She spoke with us by phone from her home in Indiana.

“You know I have to keep this clean, I just feel like he's a crook but you know I'm not his judge and jury. He has to account to God for all this." said Seidel.

Holding back tears she continued: “It's really hard for me sometimes to talk about it because there's so many people out there that care and that are trying to get us where we've gotten.”

The two charges Schiavone is currently facing are each 15 year felonies. The State Attorney says Schiavone is still under investigation in other cases.
