Loggerhead Marinelife Center to release 2 turtles Wednesday in Juno Beach

JUNO BEACH, Fla. -- Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach will release two turtles from its facility Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.

The two turtles are healthy after months of rehabilitation at the center.

The facility says Bowden, an adult male loggerhead sea turtle, was recovered at the St. Lucie Power Plant Intake Canal in April 2015. They described him as lethargic, underweight, and had many large barnacles on his carapace.

Lucie, a sub adult loggerhead sea turtle, was also recovered at the same location in June 2015.

The center says Lucie had ingested a fishing hook, which was successfully removed.

Loggerhead Marinelife Center staff have outfitted Bowden with a satellite tag that will allow LMC biologists to track the turtle's movements.

The public will also be able to track Bowden's travels atwww.marinelife.org/track . His location is transmitted to a satellite each time he surfaces to breathe.

LMC says it is rare to have the opportunity to track adult males.

Loggerhead Marinelife Center is located at 14200 U.S. Highway One in Juno Beach.
