Police identify car burglary suspect from fingerprints taken off perfume bottle

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Police arrested Karl Issac Kelly on Tuesday for burglary to an unoccupied vehicle after his fingerprint was located on a perfume bottle that was inside the burglarized car.

Officer Erika Gerstner responded to the 300 block of SE Bayview Terrace for a report of a car burglary. After the officer completed that investigation she checked the neighborhood for other possible car burglaries.

Officer Gerstner observed two cars in the driveway of a home located in the 600 block of Greenway Terrace that had their driver side door open.

The owner of the cars said they left their car doors unlocked, but the doors were closed when they last saw the cars.

Further investigation revealed that someone had entered the vehicles and rummaged through them.

Officer Gerstner processed the crime scene and took a perfume bottle from inside one of the cars that was suspected to have been handled by the suspect.

Crime Scene Investigators identified a fingerprint belonging to Kelly, 20, who became the prime suspect in the burglary.

Detectives located Kelly at his house and questioned him.

Kelly confessed to the car burglary, but denied that he burglarized any other cars.

He was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.

Police are currently investigating 4 other burglaries that have occurred in a .35 mile radius of this crime.
