Code Red Alert, the county's newest emergency connection system

Deputy Director of Emergency Management Bill Pecci shows off Code Red, the county’s newest emergency connection system.

“Identifying a geographic location on our map and all those people that are preregistered and live within that location from a push of the button they get the message sent out to them,” Said Pecci.

By going through the county website, you can be alerted for storms, fires, flooding and more.

“You can get it on your cell phone, text message, home phone.”

Pecci says Code Red would be activated for Erika if there are evacuation orders.

“The county also making preparations outside, checking all the major storm water treatment areas to prevent any potential flooding if a storm does come this way.”

First stop is off Kanner Highway south of Indian Street.

Jim Gorton, with Martin County Engineering says,“It handles several hundred acres of drainage area.”

Muck had been slowing down the flow way, what would be problematic if there are flood waters.

“Because many of the upstream neighborhoods don’t have updated drainage systems that treat water before its discharged,” he explains.
