Palm Beach Zoo preparing for Erika

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Zoo is getting prepared in case Erika approaches.

Crews are working around the clock, boarding up exhibits and clearing trees ahead of the storm.

More than 700 animals will need to be secured.

The zoo says it has enough space to house the animals indoors but wants to make sure that anything loose is secured and that there is enough food to go around.

"There are some areas that are prone to flooding and in those areas the animals have been moved out,” said Palm Beach Zoo Facilities Executive Director Dave Ruhl.

Several generators were also brought in just in case the power goes out.
