DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Police in Delray Beach say they've arrested Dion Graham for shooting and killing a man Saturday morning.

Now, they're calling on the community not to retaliate.

Officers found 26-year-old Jamar Gammage with gunshot wounds near the Community Market at 1130 West Atlantic Avenue at about 2:00 am Saturday. He died on the scene.

Captain Tom Mitchell says detectives used surveillance footage from the area to pick a suspect. He says two witnesses identified the suspect as Graham.

Police arrested Graham Thursday in Lake Worth. Mitchell says he confessed to killing Gammage and said he was remorseful.

"Actually the sergeant came to me last night, after obtaining the confession, and wanted to make sure we knew about it, to get it out there to the public that he felt bad for what he did and he did not want anybody to retaliate for his actions," Mitchell explains.

Detectives believe the two men knew one another and were arguing about a woman before the shooting.

"This senseless shooting could have easily been avoided," Mitchell says. "With the rise of gun violence throughout society today, the community leaders must get together and re-channel this negative frustration."

The police department is asking civic, church and school groups to work in the community to end gun violence.

Mitchell is confident the community will get the message and no one else will be hurt related to this murder.

"If people don't want to become involved in the place where they live, work and play, it could easily deteriorate. People need to become involved and step forward when there are problems," Mitchell says, adding the police department relies on relationships with different organizations to keep the community safe.
