Bahamas man caught trying to smuggle cocaine taped to his ankles

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A man from the Bahamas is in custody after U.S. Customs and Border Protection said he was caught last month in South Florida smuggling about 2.4 pounds of cocaine taped to his ankles and in his luggage.

Officers said the man was arrested Aug. 13 after arriving in Fort Lauderdale on a cruise ferry from the Bahamas.

During an inspection, CBP officers said they noticed the man nervously moving items around in his luggage as they asked him questions.

Officers later discovered two brick-shaped packages that contained cocaine. Additional packages of cocaine were late found taped to the suspect’s ankles.

The cocaine and evidence were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations.

U.S. Customs did not release the suspect's name.
