Bus driver takes stand in St. Lucie County school bus wrongful death civil trial

There was more emotional testimony Tuesday in the wrongful death case of a 9-year-old boy killed in a school bus crash on the Treasure Coast in 2012.

Albert Hazen, the bus driver who was behind the wheel, testified in the morning.

He was questioned about what kind of bus driving training he had and what kind of security checks he did on the bus before driving students the day of the crash.

The family of Aaron Beauchamp is accusing the driver and the manufacturer of the bus of negligence.

Hazen said he was running late the day of the crash because he was given extra routes however, he said he wasn't in a rush.

Hazen said nothing was obstructing his view of the truck that hit the bus but he noticed it only seconds before the crash. "It doesn't make sense why I didn't look. I always look … it's been haunting me every day, I just can't figure out how I didn't see that truck coming."

Hazen says he accepts some responsibility for the crash but not 100% given potential problems with the manufacturing of the bus.

Beauchamp’s father Simon took the stand after Hazen.
