Little girl organizes lemonade sale to aid a police officer battling cancer

(WNYT/NBC NEWSCHANNEL) If ever there was a cup of lemonade made with love, you'll find it on a neighborhood corner in Delmar, New York. The summer treat is refreshing, and Caidyn Mahan's reason for setting up the stand is inspiring.

"For Nick. He's a police officer," she explains.

Officer Nick Colaneri is a man Caidyn has never met. The Hoosick Falls police officer is battling a rare form of Hodgkin's Lymphoma. His part-time position doesn't get health insurance, so friends, and in this case strangers, are making it their full time mission to rally around him.

"His story story really touched us," said Caidyn's mom Kristi.

Kristi adds her her daughter didn't hesitate to help.

"Because he's a police officer and police officers help people and I thought it would be nice to help a police officer," Caidyn said.

Neighbors, EMS workers and firefighters in the Delmar area thought the same thing. They didn't think twice about dropping $10 and $20 bills into a hat for their fellow man in uniform.
