West Palm Beach police, officials meet Tuesday to curb gun violence

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The West Palm Beach Police Chief and West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio have announced what they are calling a Neighborhood Enhancement Team in an effort to curb gun violence.

It is made up of 5 officers and 1 sergeant.

The new unit was developed after 14 young people have been shot and killed so far this year on the city's north side.

In the new unit there will be one juvenile expert and one gang expert and the mayor says they will try to tackle the problem of guns in our neighborhoods.

Mayor Jeri Muoio has also been outspoken about the need to strip West Palm Beach residents of illegal weapons.

The police department is trying to hire the positions from within.

The chief believes they could have all the new positions filled by the first week of October.
