Two women team up to offer free CPR classes after drowning and near drowning experiences

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Two women with different lives are drawn together through tragedy. One lost her two-year-old to a drowning. The other saved a child from a near drowning at a birthday party.

"I idolize you. She turned her pain into passion," said Jennifer Richardson

Richardson and Keri Morrison share similar stories but with different endings. Keri is the founder of Live Like Jake. Named after her son, Jake Morrison, who drowned in Central Florida two years ago.

"It's been a really tough two years. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him," said Keri Morrison.

Jennifer is the creator of Ready, Set, Save. She gave CPR to a little girl, who nearly drowned last year at a birthday party in Coconut Grove.

She said, "For just a split second, I backed away and thought I can't do this maybe someone else can do it, but no one stepped forward to do it."

The two, now teaming up to host a CPR and drowning prevention event next week.

"I recently found out that 70% of Americans do not know CPR," said Morrison.

Richardson said, "I reached out to Keri and I felt like I would love to do it together because I feel like we could be better as a team."

Compressions, the Heimlich Maneuver and infant CPR will be taught. Life saving lessons, the duo now share with others.

"CPR, the knowledge is key and you could potentially save someone's life," said Morrison.

The CPR awareness event will be held next weekend in Abocoa at the Island Club House.
