Report: Faulty equipment used in Palm City home fumigation

PALM CITY, Fla. - Disturbing details emerged Thursday morning from a joint state investigation into the fumigation of a Palm City home.

The full report from the Florida Department of Agriculture shows that Sunland Pest Control, the company sub-contracted to tent the McCaughey home, used faulty equipment during the fumigation.

The state said two gas meters crucial to ensuring a home is safe to re-enter were not in working order.

On Wednesday, the department of health confirmed Peyton McCaughey, 10, who is now severely brain damaged, is suffering from exposure to pesticides.

The investigation also shows Sunland employees did not participate in training programs on how to properly use the pesticides.

A Terminix spokesperson said Thursday that the company is still reviewing the findings of the report.

Terminix said its thoughts and prayers are with the family, however company policy prevents it from commenting on pending litigation.
