Conservationist highlights Jupiter mobile home park

JUPITER, Fla. - It's a slice of old Florida that will soon be on the chopping block.

Suni Sands Mobile Home Park in Jupiter is one of the oldest in the state and is right on the Jupiter Inlet.

"We always call it paradise and I really do feel it is," resident Jan West said.

But their paradise is slowly being broken down.

The owner is developing the land and all the residents will have to go.

"There is an unrest here now so a lot of the tranquility is gone," West said.

The park's manager says it is not clear what will be built there, but it could be a hotel and a shopping complex.

And that has gotten the attention of conservationist Stephen Capra.

"This community has fit well in that environment. You've got all these endangered species. A group of people who trust one another and help one another. You don't see that everyday," Capra said.

Capra produced a movie for social media bout Suni Sands to spread the word.

"What we see more and more on the coast of Florida is multi million dollar homes that are gated and people are not communicating. This is a slice of old Florida that needs to be preserved," Capra said.

Eviction notices have already gone out and change in the park is pretty much unavoidable.

But Capra and the sixty residents still living in the park hope their little paradise doesn't turn into a concrete jungle.

"When I leave here, I want to know that this area is going to be protected and respected," West said.

The manager of the park says the owner is committed to ensuring the sea life is not hurt.

Capra says he is planning another visit to the area in the coming weeks.
