BOCA RATON, Fla. - Governor Rick Scott says Florida is "on a roll." Friday he announced the state added 20,100 private sector jobs in the month of August.

Speaking at ADT headquarters in Boca Raton, Scott says job growth has led to statewide increase in wages.

This announcement brings the state unemployment rate to 5.3%, down from 5.9% compared to August 2014.

Scott says the work is not done, he wants to see the numbers continue to improve.

"We need to recruit more companies. Companies like GE and other companies considering moving out of these high tax, high regulations states. We gotta get those companies down here because we want to diversify our economy," Scott explains.

Lieutenant Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera says Florida is setting an example for the nation. He attributes job growth to building a business-friendly environment by cutting taxes and regulations.

Construction and education and health services saw the most job growth, according to the governor.

State leaders say Florida now has more than 7 million private sector jobs, a record high for the state. Plus there are more than 200,000 current job openings in the state.

The governor's office says the West Palm Beach metropolitan area added 14,200 jobs from August 2014 to August 2015, bringing unemployment down 1%.
