WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A South Florida woman has pleaded guilty in a federal case involving importation of the synthetic drug flakka from China.

Court records show 22-year-old Jaime Nicole Lewis pleaded guilty Monday in West Palm Beach federal court of conspiring to import the key flakka ingredient into the U.S. Her co-defendant Kevin Raphael Bully has pleaded not guilty.

Lewis faces a maximum 20-year prison sentence.

The pair was charged after Drug Enforcement Administration agents based in London intercepted U.S.-bound drug packages shipped from Hong Kong. An undercover DEA agent posing as a delivery company employee brought the packages to Lewis' home where Bully signed for them.

Flakka has become a major drug abuse problem in South Florida. It can cause delusions and paranoia and can give users adrenalin-fueled strength requiring restraint.
