Alex Castro: Fidel Castro's son talks about lifting embargo

HAVANA, Cuba - Reporter Michelle Quesada was in the courtyard of the Hotel Nacional in Havana when she met the son of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

Fidel’s son, Alex, spoke with Quesada about his appreciation for Pope Francis and credits him completely for the changes happening between to the U.S. and Cuba.

Alex Castro said he's not at the table for conversations about U.S. and Cuba relations. He said he doesn't get into politics, but approves of the potential change coming to Cuba.

Through a translator, he said:   “We are happy that this embargo will start diminishing until the point of total extinction because all of these regulations caused a lot of harm to the Cuban community -- not only from the economic point of view but also the social point of view.”

Alex Castro wouldn't answer questions about what his father thinks of the changes. He says those are not conversations they have but said Fidel is enjoying retirement.
