Secret emails show state attorney will send officer involved shooting to grand jury

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Secret emails the West Palm Beach spokesman accidentally posted to the city's website, show that the Palm Beach County State Attorney is likely sending the case of an officer involved shooting outside the El Dorado Furniture Store to a grand jury.

In the emails, there is an exchange between a Department of Homeland Security Agent and a West Palm Beach Police Detective where the grand jury is mentioned.

In the emails, the agent says "the broadcast of the surveillance footage has spawned an enormous amount of interest from management at our headquarters."

WPTV aired surveillance video that showed what appeared to be a Homeland Security Agent shooting a West Palm Beach man named Michael Antonoff outside the El Dorado store in May.

A Homeland Security spokesman first said the agents shot at Antonoff because he "accelerated his vehicle in the direction of two of the agents."

But according to Antonoff, the video shows at least one of the agents moving toward the car before shooting at Antonoff.

“Viewing the video everything he said was true so it is like who is really telling the right story? Are the cops telling the truth? Because the video says completely different from what they are saying,” Antonoff’s wife Tara Poole says.

According to the email, the case could go to the grand jury in the fall.

Investigators say Antonoff was involved in drugs.

Cases like this are generally sent to a grand jury when either the officer involved did not give a statement, or when there is suspicious that the shooting may not have been justified.
