Eriese Tisdale trial continues, state to call witnesses

FT. PIERCE, Fla. - Thursday was a day many have waited for, the opening statements in the Eriese Tisdale’s first-degree murder trial.

After eight days of questioning 250 people, 12 jurors and 3 alternates were selected.

Sgt. Gary Morales a deputy with the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office was killed in broad daylight in February of 2013.

Prosecutors says Tisdale killed Morales during a traffic stop on Naylor Terrace, just south of Edwards Road in Fort Pierce; they say Tisdale came at him.

The state says Tisdale pulled the trigger seven times and shot Morales in the head, neck, chest and arm.

"The defendant got out of his car and took his fully loaded 45 and started after Sgt. Morales and there was nothing Gary Morales could do,” Daryl Isenhower, Assistant District Attorney said.

Tisdale’s attorneys have already admitted Tisdale killed morales, but they say he acted in self-defense.

If convicted Tisdale could get the death penalty. Testimony continues on Friday; the judge has blocked off until October 9th for the case to be completed.
