Belle Glade violence may force residents to move

Hundreds of people living in a Belle Glade apartment complex were scheduled to get an update on whether they will have to stay or go following violence.

The Grand Lake Apartments was cited last month for unsafe conditions. Those unsafe conditions included missing staircases, wasp and rodent infestations, mold, broken windows and trash in swimming pools.

WPTV spoke with people living there back in February who complained of slum-like conditions.

Palm Beach County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay asked county officials to look into problems and last month during a health inspection, the owners were cited.

The owners are a Miami-based firm and they were ordered to fix the violations. Monday night, people living there will find out the status of those fixes.

A meeting at Glades-Central High, which was scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, will hopefully address those concerns.
