Stephen Maiorino: Opening statements in Boynton cop rape trial start Tuesday

Opening statements in the case of a Boynton Beach police officer accused of rape will happen Tuesday morning.

Attorneys spent all of Friday and Monday working to select a jury in the trial of a Boynton Beach officer accused of rape.

Officer Stephen Maiorino is accused of raping a woman while on duty.

The woman described to investigators the officer putting a gun to her head and forcing her into sex during the incident in October of last year.

"I was scared. I didn't know what to do. Cops can arrest you for anything. I was afraid. And he decided after the oral sex to pull the gun out and forced me to have sex with him," the victim said.

Investigators say the Boynton Beach officer was supposed to be giving the victim a ride after her friend was arrested for DUI last October. But she says he made her perform oral sex in the police department parking lot, then took her to a nearby field.

"I thought I was going to die. I thought I was going to get raped and killed and that was it," the victim told detectives.

The officer's attorney says the sex was consensual.
