Lake Worth man charged with murder after friend killed during drug deal

LAKE WORTH, Fla. - The failed robbery of a drug dealer landed one man in jail and another person dead, according to a Palm Beach County sheriff’s office report.

Kuper Lyman, 23, is being held without bond for the shooting death of his friend 23-year-old Nicholas Shels.

Detectives said the pair tried to rob a drug dealer in Aug. 31 at the Beer and Liquor store on Morrison Avenue in suburban Lake Worth.

Surveillance footage shows Shels pulling a gun as Lyman waited in the getaway car.

As Shels ran away, the drug dealer shot and killed him. Police said the dealer admitted to the incident.

The report did not say if the shooter will face charges.

The state's felony murder law allows suspects to be charged with murder if an accomplice dies when a crime is being committed.

Lyman is charged with second-degree murder.
