High waves shut down Lake Worth Pier

LAKE WORTH, Fla-- Dangerously high waves shut down the Lake Worth Pier Tuesday night. The 4-6 foot waves were not deterring people from heading to the beach or even in the water.

For many,  the large waves was more an attraction than a disruption.

"We've never seen anything quite like this. It's exciting, " said Terri Siladke

The massive waves are a result of Hurricane Joaquin and a system off the coast of the Carolina's. When you factor in the Super Moon and the swell, well, you get these 4-6 foot waves.

"This is like a rare occasion around here," said surfer Edward Kubiak. "It's amazing. I cant even explain it.

It's not clear when the pier will be back open.
