Mom faces child neglect charge after trip to Walmart

Police arrested a Port St. Lucie woman over the weekend after they say she left her 4-year-old unattended in a car while she went into a Walmart.

33-year-old Jessica Taylor told police she went to the store to pick up a prescription for her child after she learned he had pneumonia.

Police say the car was running, doors were locked and the air conditioning on when an officer arrived,  one minute after Fire Rescue responded to the scene.

Taylor only came outside because the store paged her, according to a police report.

She faces a misdemeanor charge of child neglect for leaving an unattended child in a motor vehicle longer than 15 minutes.
