Peyton McCaughey's football coach planning fundraiser

STUART, Fla. -- Peyton McCaughey's family says he suffered brain damage after their Palm City home was fumigated in August. To help offset expenses related to Peyton's care his flag football coach Brian Connelly is planning a fundraiser this weekend.

"He was playing on defense the other team threw an interception. He caught it," Connelly said sharing one his best memories of Peyton on the field. "Of course like any 9-year-old does, he catches the ball and runs the wrong way."

Connelly says Peyton made the turn and came through for his team.

"He finally figured out what's going on. He turns all the way around and he runs. He probably runs 200 yards, but wound up scoring the touchdown."

But Peyton's sitting this season out, recovering after his family says he was poisoned after his home was fumigated for termites.

"As soon as we heard about what happened to Peyton we immediately felt a call to step up and do something," Connelly explained.

Peyton and Connelly's son Austin are best friends and are in the same class at Bessey Creek Elementary School. Connelly says what happened to Peyton had an impact on his family and now he wants to help out any way they can.

"We can only do so much personally and we just thought what would be a great way to get the community involved, so collectively it would help Peyton."

Connelly owns All Points Mobile Shredding and is teaming up with the Bessey Creek Elementary School PTA for a shred day fundraiser this Saturday at Peyton's elementary school.

The free Community Shred Day is Saturday October 17 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Bessey Creek Elementary School. The event is open to the public with a three box maximum. The group is asking for a $10 per box donation. All proceeds from the event will go towards offsetting expenses related to Peyton's care.

If you cannot make it to Community Shred Day, you can also make donations through Go Fund Me .
