WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - UPDATE: Police have identified the man struck by a train as Christopher W. Barnes, 29, of Greenacres.

A train struck and killed a person walking near Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard, witnesses told police Thursday.

The witnesses said the man, described as a white adult, was on his cellphone as he walked westbound on the north side of Palm Beach Lakes.

They say he crossed under crossing gates, which were down, when the southbound train struck him.

Investigators located the train near Boynton Beach.

Police have not yet released the man's identity.
