Currie Park makeover in the works and Northwood residents, shoppers welcome the change

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Currie Park and the surrounding area could be getting a major makeover including new roads, maybe even a grocery store.

Local business owner John Jarvis says change is welcome, "I think it's great. It's another step in the process of revitalization for the Northwood area."

Jarvis grew up riding his bike on Northwood Road and remembers when the store front that is now Relish was a local pharmacy.

"It was rough, it was a rough area," Jarvis recalled. "They have done a tremendous job in revitalizing the area."

Drawings from the city show more growth could be coming to Northwood, including a large Publix with a funky façade.

Jarvis says the area when made over, "will have a unique, little vibe."

Laura Lillienfeld works at a variety of businesses on Northwood Road and is also excited about what could be coming to the area.

"There's a lot of activity here and there would be even more activity," said Lillenfeld. "It would just bring the whole neighborhood together in a really fantastic way."

Preliminary plans from the city also include a public marina with 100 slips, two to three waterfront restaurants, and recreation areas.

"It would be great to have some little boutiques of different types," Lillenfeld suggested. "Anything that would be a big variety of shopping would be great for the area."

Jarvis is more excited about waterfront dining. "Restaurant wise my wife and I always say it's hard to find restaurants on the water, so I'd love to have restaurant on the water where I can take clients when they come to town. It's only positive."

The plans for Currie Park and the surrounding area are preliminary, the drawings are speculative, and show what could be coming to Northwood over the next 10 years.
