3 due in court for 2014 Palm Beach Gardens protest

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Three protesters accused of blocking a road to prevent construction in Palm Beach Gardens are headed to court Thursday morning.

Last November, representatives from "Everglades Earth First!" locked themselves to a disabled van on Hood Road in Palm Beach Gardens.

They said they were trying to keep construction equipment from reaching the 681-acre Briger Forest, where Scripps Research Institute was trying to expand.

The commotion forced the Meyer Academy to cancel classes that day.

A rally was held outside the Palm Beach County Courthouse Thursday morning to support efforts to preserve the forest.
