Community center opens in suburban Hypoluxo

HYPOLUXO, Fla. - New opportunities opening up for people living in sub-urban Hypoluxo. Palm Beach County Parks held a grand opening for the San Castle Community Center, not far from Rolling Green Elementary School on Mentone Road.

The community center, to be operated by Housing Partnership, Inc., is more than just a facility for residents to gather.

The facility will provide referrals to social services, connections to quality after-school care, adult education classes, health education seminars, teen pregnancy prevention, parenting programs, drug and gang prevention and mentoring, as well as other programs to support the needs of families in the neighborhood.

People living nearby say this center is what the community needs, a place to gather.

"A lot of things happen in every community, there's always crime," Carmen Sifonte said. "But this gives us a place where not only the sheriff's department can come, but where we can all be part of something."

The celebration was an all-day affair with food, children's games and music. The center was built using $150,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding.
