WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - An apartment complex caught fire Tuesday morning in West Palm Beach.
Fire and smoke were showing when firefighters arrived at the four-unit building in the 1300 block of Douglass Ave.
Johnnie Mae Wilkerson said she was in her apartment in the living room when she noticed smoke.
She says she went to open the bedroom door and smoke came out.
Wilkerson said she tried to use a fire extinguisher, but it didn't work so she called 911.
The fire spread from the first floor to the second floor, according to West Palm Beach Fire Rescue.
Initially first responders were told that there might be elderly people trapped inside.
A search of the building did not turn up any victims.
The fire was brought under control just before 11 a.m.
