Former lifeguard for Clearwater, Florida, admits to having sex with a 14-year-old girl

CLEARWATER, Fla. - A former lifeguard for the city of Clearwater faces sex crime charges after admitting to having sex with a 14-year-old girl, according to court documents.

David Garcia-Calderon, 19, allegedly told investigators he had "consensual sex" with the young girl at his residence.

Prosecutors charged Garcia-Calderon with lewd and lascivious battery after his arrest Tuesday.

Julia Nunez takes her kids to the North Greenwood Recreation Center, and she said she's disgusted.

"He's a grown man, he shouldn't have been with a child," said Nunez. "I'm disgusted because, I mean, you hear it all the time at other places, and I think the worst part is when you trust a place and a facility where your kids have been going to for a while, and you hear something like that."

After hearing about this incident, Nunez voiced concern that there might be more children who've been victims.

"Sometimes kids wont say things because there threatened by the person who's doing it or they think they're going to get in trouble," she said.

Garcia-Calderon was a lifeguard with the city up through August. He then moved to a permanent part-time position in the Clearwater Parks & Recreation Department.

A source told ABC Action News in Tampa that Garcia-Calderon's current employment with the city would be terminated, effective Thursday.
