JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - Police said a man dressed as "Darth Vader" didn't use a lightsaber to try and rob a Jacksonville Beach convenience store but instead brandished a silver revolver.

The Jacksonville Beach Police Department said the suspect, later identified as Jacob Jeremy Mercer, 32, of North Tonawanda, N.Y., entered the store just before 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Wearing a "Darth Vader" mask with black pants and light blue sneakers, police said Mercer displayed a pistol and demanded money from the clerk.

According to a police report, the clerk threw a jar of blue cheese dressing at Mercer during an altercation, causing a cut on his face.

Mercer fled the store but was arrested without incident at a nearby residence.  Investigators said several handguns and ammunition were found in his backpack.

Mercer was arrested and charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon.
