Jupiter Love Street Project faces opposition

JUPITER, Fla-- The Town of Jupiter is looking to redevelop about 4 acres along Love Street as part of a bigger redevelopment plan for the Jupiter Inlet Village.

The town says the plans would bring growth to the area with restaurants, shops, even vacation rentals,
but some residents are concerned the area is getting over developed.

Jupiter's planning and zoning committee voted to recommend the 30 million dollar project to the town council.
"The town will then have a very pleasant place for families and tourists and people who come to our area to visit," said Patricia Walker, the chair of the town's planning and zoning committee.

The developers say one of the main goals of the project is to keep the waterfront open and accessible to the public, while keeping the buildings low in height and historically accurate.

But many long-time Jupiter residents, like Teri Grooms, are against these plans.

"You don't want it in your back yard because it invites a lot more traffic to our town. It takes away from our low key laid-back lifestyle that we've had all this time in jupiter," said Grooms.

Just Sunday morning, Grooms started an online petition to stop the Love Street Project. In less than two days, 600 have signed the petition.

While the petition doesn't have any actual power to stop the project, one council member we spoke with says he will take everything into consideration when it's time to vote.

"I take everything into consideration, especially from the residents of Jupiter," said Council member Ben Klug.
"If I have to and if I know it's from them, then I take it in definte consideration."

The project is expected to be on the town council's agenda for December 15.
