(WKYC/NBC NEWSCHANNEL) Color blindness affects one in 12 men and one in 200 women, but now a new pair of glasses might change the way the color blind see the world.

They're called Enchroma glasses and they filter red and green to help those who can't see color finally see what they've been missing.

Dr. David Oldenburgh in Brooklyn, Ohio is among the first optometrists who has made them available to patients.

Tom Kelley was the first, and was stunned by the vastness of hues he'd never seen before.

"The first thing I saw when I put those on yesterday was the trees are like, 15 different colors," Kelley said. "The reds, especially are really vibrant."

Kelley is a former volunteer firefighter, and had never really seen the color red before.

"As soon as I leave here today I'm going to go to a fire department, and take a look at their fire trucks," he laughed.
