Up until now, consumer drones have been at best a fun hobby for many and, at worst, a nuisance for the privacy-minded and tech-phobic.

But a recent accident in England may change how we look at consumer drones moving forward.

An 18-month-old child named Oscar Webb in Worcestershire lost one of his eyes when an amateur drone operator, Simon Evans, lost control of his remote-controlled drone.

As Evans was landing the drone from about 60 feet in the air, the drone hit a tree and spun around, hitting the child.

The drone sliced the little boy's eye in half, causing irreparable damage.
