Are you ready for Giving Tuesday?

December 1, 2015 is "Giving Tuesday."

It started in 2012, as a way to give back to charities.

The Lord's Place is participating in "Giving Tuesday" for the first time this year.

The non-profit hopes to raise $3 million to help keep its programs running.

"We change lives everyday-- we take someone from being homeless to making them a protected member," says Diana Stanley, chief executive officer of The Lord's Place in West Palm Beach.

She says it costs $7 million to run The Lord's Place each year.

The non-profit relies on $3 million worth of donations, and the rest Diana says, comes from other revenue streams.

Pierre Revol is one of the many people who benefits from the services at The Lord's Place.

"They're always going to put your hand out to help. If you fall, they're going to give you another try," Pierre says.

Four years ago, Pierre was homeless.

Now, he works forty hours a week in the kitchen at The Lord's Place.

"I believe that's what God put us here in the world to do-- is to help each other out," he says.

The Lord's Place is accepting donations through its website, and in person at its location off Australian Avenue.

Whether you want to donate to The Lord's Place, or to another charity, Rod Davis with the Better Business Bureau says it's crucial that you do your research.

Through the website Give.org, you can check if the charity you want to donate to is legitimate.

"There's almost no chance you're going to get your money back, so you want to make sure your contributions are going to a reputable organization," says Rod Davis.

He says most charities disclose their financial information online, so you know how they spend their money.
