Ocean Reef Park on Singer Island has been closed after the discovery of a phosphorus grenade and two barrels with non-toxic material.

Lifeguards originally called in the find to officials who examined the containers and determined the contents to be non-hazardous.

However, in the course of examining the barrels, a witness pointed out a separate device nearby.

Officials have determined that device to be a military-type flare with the pin still intact.

Officials have called the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office bomb squad to contain the flare.

The flare is considered separate from the containers.

None of the material is believed to be from a barge that lost containers between Cape Canaveral and Palm Beach last weekend.

Riviera Beach Fire Rescue, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, the Department of Defense and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue are investigating.
